Alaska magazine Photo Contest

Description: This photo was taken late in August just before the real turning of the leaves but still late enough in the season to catch the morning freeze. We woke up at 5 in the morning after a cold night in the pop-up camper and drove down the Denali Park Road at a slow crawl looking for any opportunity to wildlife or a nice sunrise landscape shot. I travel the Park Road pretty often but I have never seen such a strong presence of fog which made for perfect conditions when the sun was reflecting off all of the foliage covered in frost. Everything around us was orange, really glowing orange. In that moment when everything can be a jaw dropping photo it's tough to clear your head and bed down and focus on taking a photo you'll remember and that really tells the story of that cold morning.
