Description: In June 2023, I visited McNeil River State Game Sanctuary and Refuge for the 5th time and I had never seen a wolf in camp. Neither had anyone else including McNeil staff. Far away, at a great distance, maybe. But never in camp. We were drinking coffee in the cook shack, while some of our group sat outside watching for wildlife on the spit. Suddenly, a large white wolf strode confidently through camp, marking his territory as he went. We ran out the door of the cook shack, cameras blazing as we ran - trying not to trip, hoping we even had the right settings. I was fortunate enough to capture the wolf and the looks of amazement on the faces of our group. For hours we mused and marveled... that didn't really happen. But it did. We share a special moment in time and a treasured memory.
