Description: #summerfun24 This photograph was taken 6.4.24 in Juneau, Alaska, kicking off Celebration with the yaakw (traditional canoe) landings after a 90 mile journey across ocean waters. Celebration is a biennial Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultural event held during the first week of June in Juneau, Alaska, United States that occurs once every two years. Yesterday was the first day of true warm and bright sun we have had in our northern rainforest, and we enjoyed being out of our winter gear! My kids ran shirtless, played in the ocean and in the sand on the beach as we watched the landing. It was our first real summer fun day in Alaska for us this year! Today we are back to heavy coats, rain and wind to stay warm. Over the coming days, events will honor and uplift the culture of Lingít, Haida and Tsimshian people through dances, cultural demonstrations and art markets and exhibits.
