VALDEZ FLY-IN
From May 10-12, Valdez welcomes pilots and their planes to celebrate aviation culture. The annual event features vendors, seminars, an air show, and a short-distance take-off/ landing competition. This comes on the tail of the May 4-5 Great Alaska Aviation Gathering in Palmer, the state’s largest aviation meet-up. valdezflyin.com.
LITTLE NORWAY FESTIVAL
Petersburg’s biggest annual party is May 16-19, coinciding with Norway’s Constitution Day (May 17). It offers delicious food, crafts, music, competitions (including a herring toss!), a walk-run race, and plenty of roving Vikings. petersburg.org/ festivals-and-events.
TANANA VALLEY FARMERS MARKET
Fairbanks hosts Alaska’s oldest established farmers market, which runs from May to September on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Growers from across the Tanana Valley, an area larger than Indiana, share Alaska Grown, Made in Alaska, and Silver Hand products that support Alaskan businesses. tvfmarket.com.
