Sitka Gear Blizzard Aerolite Parka

This well-built and durable parka just hit the market and is hard to beat for contending with seriously nasty weather. Designed for late-season hunting, the Blizzard Aerolite has a GORE-TEX shell and uses a special synthetic insulation to keep you warm even when you’re wet. I tested it during the late fall in southeast Alaska. Whether I was hauling deer out of the rainforest, camping in storms, or enjoying snowy-day walks with my boys, I was pleased with its performance. It kept me warm in harsh north winds but, at the same time, didn’t overheat like other jackets of a similar ilk. It’s not cheap, but any hunter or person that spends a lot of time in inclement weather should check it out, especially if you’re planning on spending a lot of time being still, doing things like glassing for critters or meditating in a blizzard. I’m hoping to spend a few months with the wild things in the Arctic in 2022 and am excited to have this high-quality parka to bring along.
