Description: If you've been tidepooling in Alaska, you've seen these iconic animals, but you probably haven't seen them like this. While this tiny anemone is normally a variety of blue, purple, white, or dark green, these animals fluoresce. Fluorescence is different than bioluminescence, the animal does not produce its own light, but instead takes UV light and reflects it back in a very different color. While tidepooling this past winter in Juneau, I brought my underwater UV light and these animals lit up the rocks! We don't know a whole lot about why fluorescence occurs, but it's definitely very cool to see!
