A good pair of chest waders is your best friend if you’re a fisherman, boat enthusiast, or have a penchant for wandering wet and wild places. Simms recently released the Guide Classic Stocking Foot Chest Waders. Made in Montana of durable GORE-TEX material, the waders held their own while I guided a film crew for several months in search of brown bears in the soggy wonderlands of Southeast. One feature that struck me immediately was how much more comfortable I was in these waders compared to others I’ve tried in the past. Sometimes while wearing them I’d forget my whole stoic guide shtick and break into spontaneous modern dance exhibitions to express the intensity of my feelings. For some reason, my moves seemed to make camera operators uncomfortable. Thankfully, the crotch is reinforced, strong enough to withstand my most rigorous displays of aerial splits and backflips.
The Guide Classic kept me dry after long days spent in the rain, wading streams, and bushwhacking through the snarly rainforest. I’m used to being perpetually wet, sometimes continually for weeks, so I felt like I was getting royal treatment wearing these. Most importantly, they are fashionable and will make you look 10 pounds lighter. If you’re looking for a pair of waders to be comfortable in and to last many seasons, I’d check these out.
