Cross-country ski racer
by Sarah Gallagher
Rosie Brennan is a cross-country ski champion and Alaskan local. The two-time World Cup winner, five-time U.S. champion, and 2018 Olympian grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and took up cross-country skiing “late” in life at the age of 14. This later start is vastly different than most of the world’s top cross-country skiers, who got their start at the same time they learned to walk. But that didn’t stop her. Hard work paid off and within three years, Brennan was winning at junior nationals and was named to the U.S. Ski Team her senior year in high school.
Since the beginning, Brennan has had a tough road filled with injury and loss, but she has continually been touted for her fitness, confidence, and dedication to the sport, competing at the world championships at just 26 years old in the 15k skiathlon, 4x5km relay, and 30km classic. From 2013 to now, she has been named an overall SuperTour champion twice, a U.S. national champion five times, and a member of four world championship teams. Most recently, Brennan was the first American to wear the sprint, distance, and overall World Cup leader bibs at the same time and finished the season fourth in the overall World Cup. To keep her outfitted in the best gear when she’s not competing, Brennan also just announced an official training partnership with Odlo, a leading performance apparel brand and engineer of active layers. Odlo provides her with baselayers, midlayers, gym wear, running gear, Nordic apparel, and accessories—everything she needs for training.
Outside of training, Brennan volunteers with Fast and Female, a program dedicated to empowering young women through sport, and Skiku, a program working to allow ski opportunities for kids in rural Alaska. In addition, she works as a mentor for Voice in Sport, a platform raising awareness and support for women’s sports. When she’s not hitting the slopes during competition season or helping young women feel strong and supported, Brennan enjoys baking, painting, camping, biking, hiking, and running.
